Soups, curries, biryani, ice cream and sweets are often sold in round bowls and tubs. These are the packs most likely to leak in transit, because they hold liquid or gravy and are carried in a bag. A round container sealing machine closes the whole rim with film so the contents stay inside. Here is what to know.

Tips for sealing round containers
- Leave headspace. Fill a little below the rim so liquid does not touch the film during sealing.
- Wipe the rim. Gravy and oil on the rim stop the film from bonding.
- Watch the steam. Very hot soup or biryani makes steam that can wet the film. Let it cool a little if you see this, and test with your own recipes.
- Dry the rim for cold items. Ice cream and chilled desserts form condensation on the rim, which should be wiped dry before sealing.
- Choose the right film. It has to suit your container material. See the film guide.
Round container or rectangular tray sealer?
Choose by the shape of your container. If you pack in bowls and tubs, the round container sealer is the match. If you pack in a single rectangular tray, such as noodles, salads, cut fruit or bakery items, the Rectangular Tray Sealer is the better fit. It takes a 220 x 150 mm tray, seals 200 to 300 trays per hour and runs on 750 W.
For meal boxes with several compartments, see our guide to 2, 5 and 8 compartment thali tray sealers.
Why seal bowls instead of using lids alone
A lid pressed onto a bowl can pop off or leave a gap, especially with hot or heavy contents. A sealed film covers the full rim and shows if the pack has been opened. Read more in our post on leak-proof delivery packaging for cloud kitchens.
